He picked up the habit in college and regrets the fact that he didn’t pursue the activity as a child. In contrast to his younger self, James Ponti loves to read. James’ background as a film major is evident in his work, with the author admitting that he endeavors to structure his books like movies. Instead, James Ponti’s love and interests lay solely with the movie theater, where he spent many an hour, watching and re-watching his favorite films it is hardly surprising that he pursued screenwriting in college. In defense of his lack of interest in reading, James has often spoken about his rather lacking speed as a reader, the author admitting to feeling frustrated during his teenage years that others could read so quickly it is hardly surprising that he chose to avoid these feelings of frustration by giving books a wide berth.Īnd even in those few occasions when the love of reading struck him (which was quite rare, since James Ponti didn’t have the patience to sit still long enough to read during his earlier years), there were few books in his local library capable of resonating with him. In fact, when he did read, it was with some reluctance. James Ponti is not afraid to admit that he is unlike most of his peers while most novelists spent their young lives buried in mounds of books, James barely read as a child. In the years that followed, James Ponti’s determination to pursue writing didn’t waver, though he debated frequently with himself over which of the various fields of writing he would pursue (journalism, screenwriter, playwright etc). It was during such trips that James would indulge in various games of ‘What If’, during which he would craft different scenarios based on his surroundings that the family would explore using their imagination, the game further instilling in him the excitement writers experience every time they create new worlds and characters.

Not unlike many families, James’ family loved to tell stories, especially regarding the many trips they undertook and the funny things that befell them. At the tender age of ten years James knew he wanted to become a writer, and as with many writers, his inspiration can be traced back to his unique and rather colorful family. On the occasions that he has been questioned about the driving force that impelled him to write, James has spoken of the whirlpools of imagination that kept him occupied as a child.

Having spent a considerable portion of his career in the Television industry as a writer and producer, James Ponti has crafted content for the likes of the Disney Channel, Nickelodeon, History Channel and Spike TV. Over the years, James has written numerous books. Raised in Atlantic Beach, Florida, James attended the University of Southern California, eventually graduating with a degree in screenwriting from USC Film School.
